I wrote this work to record my journey of the struggles I faced when coming to the U.S. and then turning to drugs and alcohol to deal with my turmoil of feeling lost and out of place. My story of addiction, becoming a runaway, and eventual incarceration, was written in the hopes that it could reach those who deal with the disease of addiction and alcoholism.

My hope is that my writing will in some small way give rise to hope and inspiration to others struggling with addiction and working toward recovery. It is also a story of families who are challenged with the move back to the U.S. after many years living abroad. Perhaps you will be inspired to tell your own story. I have learned through both painful and triumphant experiences that together we can do what we cannot do alone.
